When I excitedly told James a couple of weeks ago that we could hold Rose now his natural reaction was “When can I hold her?”. Typical me speaking before I thought about how what I am saying might be received! I asked Rose’s nurse yesterday if this was a ridiculous idea or not and she said let’s do it.
In other news, Rose is now 1.9kg. A pretty good gain of 120g. Her chromosomal test results came back – nothing to be concerned about there.
I convinced the neonatologists to follow up on Guy Henry’s suggestion to get a speech pathologist involved in Rose’s care – to make sure we are doing everything we can to work towards oral feeding. It’s early as while she’s on CPAP she can’t be fed orally so they wanted to wait but I think good to do anything we can now and they agreed. I’m always surprised by how much they take on board what a parent thinks. I shouldn’t be I know but it really does put into practise the theory that a parent knows what’s best for their child and the attitude gives me so much confidence to express my concerns to them and ask all the questions I need to.
The NICU is an incredible place filled with very special, clever and sensitive care givers. Still I’d rather I didn’t know it existed š
The look on James’ face is worth a thousand words! You are right about being an advocate for Rose – mothers do know their children better than anyone else so don’t hesitate to ask all the questions you need to. You are doing a fantastic job darling.. (Sorry – showing my generation there – should say ‘parents’) xx
What a gorgeous photo of Rose with her big brothers doting on her!
What a momentus moment!! So lovely to see the 3 siblings together and Rose in James’ lap. I love it, thanks for sharing this special event. You are doing brilliantly Jane and being so true to who you are. What a beautiful Mum your gorgeous children have. xxx

Ahh bless! What a gorgeous photo!! Its made our week š
Wow! This is a beautiful moment and one all of you will treasure, including Rose when she looks back on it! I can only confer with the other comments Jane that you and Andrew are doing a great job of advocating for Rose, keep asking those questions that come from your instincts – they are from your “gut” not clinical and I believe Rose needs both ends of the spectrum!
xoxo
Such a gorgeous pic of Rose’s v proud brothers. Hang in there Jane, you’re all doing such a great job. Lx
